Xinjiang – Part Two

The journey continues, and I’ll let the beauty of Kanas National Park speak for itself. For me, the day was spent in a trance, as I could not believe how exquisite every corner of this land was! Genghis Khan certainly had good taste.

The beauty, however, does come with a price – possibly a heavy one. The three hour drive up the mountain along tiny winding roads scared the s*** out of me, as in, I wanted to puke the entire time because we were about to fall into the abyss at any minute.

“Isn’t this dangerous?!” I screamed as the bus sped around a 90 degree turn at something like 80 kilometers an hour.

The driver chuckled, “Oh this? Yeah…just two days ago a bus of 18 tourists from Beijing went down under. HAHAHA”

Cold swear trickled down my back. I didn’t think there was anything funny about it. Here we were, five kilometers from Kazakhstan, the nearest hospital is 3 hours away. As beautiful as it was, I did not want to die here.

Thankfully, we did make it in one piece, and as is the case with dangerous journeys, the rewards are far greater than expected. Enjoy!
